Travel Postponed
Wednesday night we went to bed excited that we would be leaving in a couple days to finally bring our son home from Ethiopia. We had almost everything packed and ready to leave early Friday morning. A couple hours after Ben went to work he called and said we have bad news. Our adoption case worker emailed us (yes, emailed us) to tell us that she could not get an embassy date for us. We were so upset and sick to our stomachs. We were so excited to leave and, to be hit with this was painful to say the least. Throughout our adoption process, we have learned to wait...After our referral, our agency estimated that we would wait 8 weeks for our court date. We waited 16 weeks. After we passed court, they estimated we would travel again in 3-4 weeks. We waited 6 weeks. Now to have this set back, it did not settle well. Our agency had a conference call with us and told us that this has never happened before. Aren't we lucky to be the chosen ones? It was hard to not be upset. Our lives were set to leave for Ethiopia in less than 24 hours. We had babysitters set up, Ben's patients were cancelled, the mail was stopped, the airline tickets were bought, our hotel was reserved, Isaiah's doctor appointment was set, the fridge was bare, etc. Obviously that day was not a good one. The next day we had a choice. We could continue to be angry, upset, and sad, or we could accept what God had put before us and move on. It was not an easy decision to make, but we knew that it would not help anyone to continue to dwell on this unfortunate turn of events. We firmly believe that God's timing and plan is perfect, even when we have a hard time understanding it. About the time that our first flight was to take off on Friday, we got the call from our agency with our new embassy date. This one, they said was set in stone for March 16th. We are listing all the good things that happen this week that we are able to do. We get to spend one more weekend as a family of four, Ben and I went out one more time before we leave, and we can go over our packing and make sure we didn't miss anything. We are nearing the two year mark since the start of our adoption. We can wait one more week, right?

Heidi, you could've written our story in this post! The exact thing happened to us 2 days before Christmas. We were heartbroken! A week later we had a new Embassy date and now our kiddos are home. On this side, 1 week is not a big deal. On your side, it's sooooo hard to wait another week to bring your child home. Praying with you for your new Embassy date and celebrating your perspective!
ReplyDeleteThat is so crazy! An email is not the best way to hear such news either! Glad you guys have another date set!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry Heidi. Waiting is not easy, but it's obedience. It's doing what God asks of you at the time. Thankful you are still resting in Him. Can't wait to meet your little guy!
